  • Warsan Shire Poem + Idris

    idris 1

I had a dream last night, and it went a little like this...

    idris 4

    “every mouth you’ve ever kissed
    was just practice
all the bodies you’ve ever undressed
    and ploughed in to
    were preparing you for me.
i don’t mind tasting them in the
    memory of your mouth
they were a long hall way
    a door half open
a single suit case still on the conveyor belt
    was it a long journey?
did it take you long to find me?
    you’re here now,
    welcome home.”

  • WonderCon : Three Things We Learned

    wonder con

If you have ever been to Comic-Con in San Diego, you are familiar with a year of preparation and planning and scheduling and emailing and getting into makes me tired just thinking about it.

Yes, I'm going to Comic-Con again if you are wondering - working on the hotel thing in a different tab as I write this, in fact.

On Thursday evening our camera backpack was locked and loaded, press pass paperwork ready to go, and snack bars packed when we received a text from a friend :

"Hey, can I go to WonderCon with you tomorrow?"

"Sure," I replied, "I'll pick you up at 8:30."

Then I went back to what I was doing and didn't take into consideration the information I neglected to share with my dear friend. I assumed (or actually didn't even think about) the fact that prepping for a day at a Con is not necessarily a pop in situation. So I went back to work and got up the next day and prepped and picked her up and greatly enjoyed our drive down.

Once we were there she asked a security guard, "Excuse me, where is the line to buy tickets?"

My entire body froze as he asked her, "Uh, you don't have a ticket?"

I chimed in, "We'll figure it out. Thanks!" and pulled my friend aside.

    "You didn't buy a ticket online? I guess I shouldn't have assumed..."

My friend smiled and was not concered until she was.

In an effort to save you some pain and share some tried and true tips, here are three things we learned at WonderCon Anaheim :

    1. Plan ahead - this cannot be emphasized enough. You will need to sign up online for a member ID (which is not a quick and simple task on your phone) and then you'll need to secure tickets (assuming there are any) and this is all while standing in a line of 4000 people dressed as random anime characters you don't know (if you are me).

Visit the website well in advance. Review all schedules and procedures. Download the app.

Don't be like my friend (even though I love her dearly).

    2. Wear comfortable shoes and take water. As soon as we parked and started walking we realized it was much hotter than expected...then when we discovered my friend wasn't going to breeze in with a press pass like I was, she stood in a hot line wearing jeans with nothing to drink as I texted her from inside the air conditioned convention center while taking selfies with storm troopers (yes, I seriously did this). Again, don't be like us.

    3. The dude from Midnight, Texas is crazy hot. This won't necessarily help you plan ahead for the next Con, but it will provide endless entertainment as you Google photos of him and follow him on every form of social media, despite his being a self proclaimed "reluctant partaker in social media." A long hot line in Anaheim becomes very productive when you are discovering and semi stalking a gorgeous actor you weren't previously acquainted with. The dude's name is François Arnaud (so very sexy) - you're welcome.

Here's the trailer for the upcoming Midnight, Texas if you haven't seen it yet :If you have any questions about WonderCon or who my favorite cosplay was, feel free to hit us up on Twitter!

Please enjoy this photo of our new favorite supernatural superhero while researching and planning your trip to Comic-Con! We can meet up for cocktails!

  • Day Two : BNP Paribas Open

    Day two!

After sweating away in the desert heat on day one, we crashed in our cozy little beds at the Hyatt, and enjoyed breakfast the next morning in the midst of Nishikori and Fognini (who had the absolute cutest sweatshirt on by Hydrogen).

Then we were off to the races and only made one stop at the iced coffee tent on the way in. It's HOT!

We kicked off our day with a lengthy viewing of Gael Monfils practice session :

    monfils 1

The man is beyond your imagination...

    monfils 2

We were in awe, and just when we thought things couldn't get any better, we discovered a Monfils' team member we will call "Mystery Man" for now...we are on the hunt, so updates on this fox to come. We think he's a little sad because he hasn't met us yet, but we'll see if we can turn that frown upside down asap.

Once we ripped ourselves away from Monfils' court, we scootched our way into Nadal's practice...

Side note : despite our deep love for Jeremy Chardy, his name taunting us behind Nadal, we were unable to take any photos of him and we are still recovering but are thanking the universe for his Instagram.

We also grabbed a front view on the soccer grass :

Nadal was hitting with Marin Cilic, and we were lucky enough to grab both views from where we were perched :

As we rounded the corner to the soccer field once more we found Alex Dolgopolov

    and Stan Wawrinka :stan

We almost fell over the fence when Grigor Dimitrov pointed at us. YES! ME! ME!

I may have audibly sighed when Novak Djokovic walked out with his team :

We waved to Roger Federer and took a million photos for our friend who adores him and wasn't lucky enough to be within range of the pheromones :

    I think she'll be happy.

We also totally fell in love with Juan Martín del Potro who spent tons of time with the fans, and may have given us the cutest smile ever :

    I mean...we can't even handle it.

It was a gorgeous day and we were so happy to spend it with these (and so many more) talented athletes. The BNP Paribas Open is where it's at!

We can't wait for day three!

  • Day One : BNP Paribas Open

On Thursday morning we got out of L.A. bright and early and drove straight to the RumChata tent at the Indian Wells Tennis Center. Well, not right up to the tent, as the men with the orange sticks would only let us go so far. Once we were hydrated and fed, we were ready to dive into the practice courts and were handsomely rewarded...

First we saw Tomas Berdych and he gave us a quick lesson in serving. Our RumChata and excitement over being so close to him may have caused us to take a million photos of this.

Then we caught up with Mischa Zverev and his intense blue steel pose...

When we took a stroll over to the soccer field we watched this guy and his cute butt play soccer. He never actually turned around and none of the people standing around with giant green balls (literally) knew who he was so although we are sure he's someone super hot and talented, we just appreciated his soccer skills (butt).

    cute butt

We found Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and drooled a bit over his amazing hair...

    tsonga 2

    I mean, he's unreal. Swoon.

Not to mention he had this gorgeous guy on the court with him - sorry we don't know your name, dude, but thank you for decorating the court with your, uh, sportsmanship.

    thong's hot friend

Finally we found Roger Federer and soaked in a little of his sunshine...

    federer butt

and watched him walk away. Not bad, wink wink.

    federer butt

We had a great day and can't wait to tell you all about Friday! Hopefully there will be lots of Djoky time, since we watched him today and were so mesmerized we forgot to take photos. Well, that or it was the RumChata.

Follow BNP Paribas Open on Instagram for all the fun we miss since we can't be everywhere at once (sadly).

  • Trudeau Nails It Again!

    trudeau 800

Today, The President of the United States gave a gorgeous and supportive speech about...oh wait, what? He didn't? What about International Women's Day and the...oh, got it. OK.

In other news, Justin Trudeau made a lovely statement as a true gift to the women (and men, and LGBTQ, and trans communities). We love him. We really, really love him.
